Tractors, Trucks and Deep Fried Cheese Curds
« on: Sun Jul 26 '09, 07:49:44 PM »
A few pics from an International Harvester (Farmall) show/celebration we went to here in Madtown Friday.  The first four were of about 100 I took as about 140 paraded past us on their way downtown.

This next one is the Farmall "B".  I learned to drive on one just like it.  That axle top to the left of the drivers seat was just wide enough for two little kids (my brother and I) to sit.  Ours had a bar across in front of the axle just right for little feet.

Trader Joe's sells cheese curds, so buy some and deep-fry them yourself! ;ev :ck

I just might have to.

Not sure it'll be the same as farm fresh curds but worth a try!!

Glad you all like the pics.   :ny

Well, Skip, I'm partial to Johnny Put Put's myself but the Farmall "B" replaced the horses on our farm. It's still running on my brothers farm.   After an assortment of Farmall's, H's, M's and even 560"s (notable for engine problems) we gravitated to John Deere's for the most part.  Still, at a 20th Annual Red Power Show there's not likely to be much green showing.   :no

I figured the addition of deep fried cheese curds would be a hook.  Shan, if Trader Joe's curds squeak when you bite into them (prior to frying) then they are considered fresh.  If they don't squeak .... well ..... eat 'em anyway.   :gi

Are the curds battered?

I have a seriously soft place in my heart for squeaky cheese  :ks

Oh gosh!  You're going to make me admit it.  I've never actually eaten a deep fried cheese curd.  Plenty of fresh cheese curds but none fried.   :no  I don't think their battered though.   :wh

Deep Fried Cheese Curds  :hb

 INGREDIENTS

    * 1 cup all-purpose flour
    * 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    * 1/2 teaspoon salt
    * 2 eggs, beaten
    * 1/2 cup milk
    * 1 pound cheese curds
    * 1 quart oil for frying

DIRECTIONS

   1. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the eggs and milk. Mix until smooth. Add more milk for a thinner batter. Coat the cheese curds with the batter.
   2. Heat the oil in a large, heavy skillet over medium heat. Fry the coated cheese curds approximately 1 minute each, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Nope, not sweet....they are the curds of cheese that never grow up to be real cheese  :gi The cheesemaker stops the cheese process before the cheese starts molding, salts the curds and cools them. They are little randomly shaped nuggets that LOOK like cheese but have a different texture. They are slightly dryer and they squeak when you bite 'em!

GO GET SOME.

Ooooh!  Sweet!  I'd like to have one of those big dogs Coop but my woods is only 35 acres so I went small (not to mention the cost savings)  :wh  Here's my little NH taken right after I put the new back hoe on last fall.  Only 33 horses but heck its 4 wheel drive, and has cruise control.   :gi

That is sweet!!  Yeah, I grew up in Northern Indiana on a 5,000 acre ranch and now Grandpa only has 500 left.
That big green monster is the tenant that farms my grandpa's remaining 500 acres.  His company is called
Lord's Seed and he rents/farms 17,000 acres in the Michiana area.  It's a HUGE operation!

You're welcome Kurt, and nice Johnny put put.  Could be a Model D.  I like that red pickup too.  I'd give my eye teeth for that one. :ny
