hey clover!

i am blessed with having helix about 15 miles away.  they told me i'd be in and out in under an hour and a half.....so i'm purchasing some leasure time....as it would have taken me and my install buddy a lot longer.  maybe i'll mod the garage next....a used lift on ebay?

i will have the first mini on the east coast with this header....and just in time for the dragon :bn

you still have time to change your mind ya know :th

can't wait to post impressions of the header, brew swap, dragon wine, etc, etc........

am not.  i have read so many conflicting view points on heat wrapping over the years that my brain has given up :sr

they did come with an option of jet heat coating....which was very "blingy," but since i only get on the track about 4 times a year, i figure i don't need it (as if any of this lunacy had anything to do with need :wh)

i am pro cat :ny
trying to stay legal and help the environment!

just drove home from helix today.  all i can say i wow!  i'm much quicker...and louder than i was before.  the primaries on the mynes are noticably larger than the stock header.  it was great fun getting eric's take on the whole hubie/mynes vs. jan/mynes wars.  no cels.  the only immediate downside is a rub/rattle at idle that is due to the cat hitting the heat shield.....an easy fix....but first i'm gonna let it expand and contract a couple of times.  guess i won't be sneaking up on anyone at the dragon ;mx

well since you asked......

as you may know, eric is low key and stays away from nam.  he feels that jan is a "live by the sword, die by the sword" sort of guy.  has to be the biggest/bestest/baddest mini tuner dude (for whatever reasons).  likewise with hubie.  chagrinned that someone tuning cars calls himself "doctor."  so you have these two fairly narcissistic dudes sluggin' it out on nam!

as for the header, eric feels that both the rmw and mynes use the same cat.  the design is pretty close, save for that the mynes comes in two pieces (which i see as a big plus after reading the issues people are having with the rmw).  he thought the build quality was similar...but peeved that after install, the cat was rubbing on the heat shield....clearly irked his perfectionistic side.

i think a lot of people are waiting for my impressions of the header....but i feel compelled to drive it at least 100 mi before i post.  i'll put about 250 miles on driving to the dragon, where eric and i will give it a close "going over."

I've got the Alta header and run a Cat as well and had the same problem with the Cat hitting the heat shield too.

is it gone?  if so how?  a little persuation i'd wager :ny

mine happens pretty rarely right now.....i could probably "live with it."  but i expect the same obsessionalism and perfectionist attitude i have from these vendors.  it's disappointing when everything's not the way it's suppossed to be......then again, i have the first one of these things and was given a special intro price....so i'm not really complaining.

To pass along some words of advice from a fellow car nut (and professional)...

You measure 10 cars.  They'll all have variations.  The best one can hope for is a vendor who makes something that "fits" the average...

Heat shields and clearances for exhausts and headers?  I can live with that easily enough.
It's when I start hearing about variations in things like control arm clearances and stuff that really gets me scratching my head...

i.e. why would one car require a 3mm spacer to clear, yet another requires a 5mm spacer for the same wheels, on the same generation Mini, with the same low miles?

I guess I've been lucky to live in the world of Toyota, Scion, and Lexus too long... where everything appears to be exactly and identical in nature...
Or... is that 'because I haven't swapped aftermarket parts in that many years, that I never noticed the differences???

The header looks beautiful.  I especially like the V-band where the header meets the cat.

Yeah, I blame the internet for sure.
Not only in the Mini world, but in the shooting world, I've actually had to call people and ask "was that really YOU posting those messages on the website" when someone would disagree/etc. with their viewpoints!!!

I mean, you expect attitude at the track, or in the staging lanes... but online?  Where you're  :qt professionally  :qt representing your company?

Mine was only doing it at idle. I thought I could "live with it too". But at stop lights and in drive thrus it would drive me fucking nuts!!! I fixed it with a hammer and the blunt end of a screwdriver.

On a side note if you do replace your header you might want to get these too.

I've had them in the car for a year and never had a problem.
