Alternative Events
« on: Tue Jan 13 '09, 05:27:02 PM »
If anyone plans an alternative event (no, Jim, not THAT kind of alternative event :gi) this would be the thread to discuss it.

For example, if you would rather have a room party instead of cruise the strip at 3 mph for hours and hours, post it up here. :ny

Actually, you've missed this one.  My idea for an alternative event at AMVIV, was the autocross I suggested to them months ago.  LVSCCA was willing to put it on for them, and make it exclusively Minis.  Somehow, someway, AMVIV couldn't seem to wrap their heads around how it would work, and is letting Wicks put something on that is twice the money for half the number of runs, and then it's only limited to those with autox experience.  Defeats the purpose of the whole idea.

My reason for this thread, Jim, is to offer a discussion place for folks who will be at AMVIV but don't want to do the "official" events.  If you want to plan a small get-together or something, post about it here.  I haven't missed anything.  :ak

Becky once worked for a tobacconist, so she's usually up for cigar talk, if that's going to happen.

Well, I'm down to smoke cigars & sip cocktails in the evening so count me in on the action.  I have some Padron 1964 Anniversary edition with my name on em'.  :cp

If the same folks own that pub as when I was last there (AMVIV II), it has good grub. :ny

Seems like the burgers were good and the beer was cold. So i was happy.

Besides after a few drinks does the grub really matter

It all depends on what I'm planning on doing the next day, usually I crash after the pub.

I volunteer to be the official sober person, so no one has their honor spoiled!  Unless of course someone WANTS their honor spoiled, in which case just wear a "DO ME" tag.   ;ll

We spent a lot of money in that pub our first time there. Like Kelly said, the top floor parking garage is where it is at. You can bring whatever drink you like, it doesn't close until the vendors show up in the morning, and security is really cool with it. The little cafe has a $1.99 breakfast special to finish up the evening with before you head to bed.

I've been kinda thinking of going this year...  I've been at two, so don't need to do some of the runs.  Too bad a simple autocross can't be set up on that parkinglot just south of the parking garage, enough to introduce noobies and whet my appetite.  I vote for a cigar smokeout.  Anyone play pool?

But I'm not disclosing the real reason I want to go.  :na

I'm considering making a last minute decision to go as well. Planning to make a spontaneous decision....hmmm....now that I think about it, that doesn't really make sense  :nu

Anyhoo, it'll be fun even if we've been before! Always something new and DEFINITELY new people  :hb

I believeth I know whom thou art speaking of....

I guess I'm not worried because going to AMVIV would require

planning ahead
driving the MINI
leaving the valley
the ability to have fun
