Ortega Run
« on: Fri Sep 04 '09, 12:32:33 AM »
Okie dokie! Lets do this! September 12th at 5pm we meet in front of Mazda in Irvine. We are rollin out at 5:30 - don't be late. We are going through the Ortega, and through elsinore, maybe on the 15, or take temescal canyon to Tom's farms. Have a less "romantic" dinner than last time. Then find your own way home. If your not familiar with the Ortega, take the 91 home at night. I hope its warm, I wanna go topless :na

I hope the lights are brighter at Tom's than they were at Duke's but the ambience was cool. Hopefully I wont need a fly swatter to keep away the incessant buzzing from the waiters
I just pop the moon roof open and blast the jams whilst motoring.  :hb

Ahhhh.  NOW I know who you are... on the boards at least.
 Great pictures... great time.

Looking forward to the next event... even if Natalie is 'skerd of my uhm... driving style.

And yes, Eric was right.  I did have quite an adventure on the way home.
Let's just say, that older Saleen Mustangs (late 90s-mid 00s?) are fun to chomp on.
And not as fast as they should be.

Also, I know Natalie's on Facebook... what about you other guys?
I'm making a Mini Cooper album (yay) and stuff and want to tag everyone, if that's ok with them?

I'm thinking something Halloween related in October... say a drive to a hay ride or corn field maze or someplace with warm cider and stuff.

And... I'll go ahead and volunteer to lead next time.

Well, I've probably still got an easy 125 to 135lbs on you.
That should give you lots of acceleration and braking advantages on the track.

I'll just have to drive smooth and find a faster line if I have any chance at beating you.

My money honestly is on Johnny_Seven though.  It sounds like he knows the place well!

Ok some myth busting here, the lighter vehicle  does not always not always win. Skill and the ability to maintain momentum, the ones who find the line quickly will always be fast.

Yes NatC is lighter and thinks faster then us guys (most women are that way) but Rooster has a lot of auto-X experience (the programing will kick in). Redhead also has track experience, Audio is also lighter then us guys and me yes I have been to K1 before but the Anaheim track has changed configuration a few times. and I promise "I wont do any training"  :li

A few things you need to know about K1.
1) its a asphalt track and the tires are soft compound = Grip. If you go too far off line you will loose grip in the marbles. Also you need upper body strength  I don't know of anyone yet  that's tried it for the first time and didn't come away with sore forearms, shoulders and pecs.2) Electric karts have tremendous torque = max torque a almost 0 RPM.
3)You have to wear a helmet with the visor closed.
4) the Anaheim track turns down the lights so its like night racing (the main reason I like going there).
5) You race the clock but you still can be flagged to let some one pass if you are slow.
6) They can hit up to 45

Now that is a modest fellow!

I've never been in an electric kart.  I'm so down for this!

Burn! Ouch Johnny! I don't think I'm faster, guys never know where they are going, and I just look better doing it!  :bg

I haven't done electric karts either, sound fun. :)

Or maybe, the speed zone in City of Industry to do some Drag Racing!

While you guys are drag racing, I'll be on the slick track having fun.

And those carts are VERY weight sensitive.  Only so much torque a lawnmower engine can make. haha

I'm not suggesting drag racing cause I might win. Its my favorite sport.  :hb

Slick track for sure. I'm not as "laid back" when there is no potential for me to get pulled over.

Ok Slick Track rocks, if there is one thing I really like is getting sideways in somebody's else's vehicles. " drive it like you stole it!" or until it breaks.  I only do this to karts.
