:ch  Cheers for your recommendation for a truck.  A truck should be a simple truck.

I've been suspicious of CR for years. My Mom get's me a gift subscription every year but I rarely read it.

Why they would pick the Avalanche over the F-150, Tundra or Silverado is way beyond me- those are actually pick up trucks-the Avalanche is a rolling compromise by comitee-hell it's named after a natural disaster-enough said.

I might have to question your LR2 pick- Landy's are pretty questionable these days and the Freelander (oops!) LR2 has some really bad quality issues. At least the dealerships are pleasent as you'll be spending  a lot of time there-get the extended warranty for this one. If you want a SUV find something with a body on frame otherwise, it's just a tall car. Get the Sube outback wagon instead and kit it out with racks, dog barrier, sierra club sticker, etc.-they look better with them!

CR has been a joke in the MINI community ever since they dissed the new MINI in the earliest days of its introduction.  I look to them for comparisons about household appliances, but really, their criteria for cars also seems to be appliance-oriented and not so "versatile."  :rb

I recall the MINI scoring badly based on peoples complaints about the cup holders.   ;ll  At least early owners got a nice mug out of the deal.   :ny

Not just the cup holders.  They didn't like the "harsh" ride and the instrument layout.  My opinion was that if people didn't want a harsh ride and funky gauge deck, they wouldn't buy a MINI to begin with.

One of my continuing themes is outing dishonest cars.  I can't stand it when a car acts like something it isn't.
