What is the 2005 Multifunction Steering Wheel wrapped with?
« on: Wed Jul 15 '09, 11:38:24 AM »
Is it vinyl or leather?  I have dug around & can't seem to get an answer.  My guess is vinyl but I am not sure  :dk  I have the standard mutlifunction steering wheel, no fancy leather upgrades on anything.  I have leatherette seats.

I only ask because I am trying to figure out a way to clean the dang thing if it is even possible.  Your know how the little creases in the wrap get dirt/grime/whatever in them over the years just from the normal skin oils in your hands plus being a gal I am sure I have added a bit of makeup & hair pom over the years even though I always try to wash my hands thoroughly before I get in the MINI each morning.  It's kind of like my steering wheel is gray with little hints of beige in all the zillions of crevices & nothing I have used thus far to remove it has worked.  I haven't been very aggressive yet but I am ready to go at it a bit harder if I can find out what material I am dealing with.... vinyl or leather?

I'm fairly certain that all MF steering wheels are leather.

Try some Connolly Hide Food or cleaner, or Lexol.........put it on and let it soak in a bit, then take a large tooth brush to the crevices, it should easily come clean. You may have to apply it a couple of times and just let it soak in, but it will clean it up........

Lexol is great.  I use it for 90% of all leather surfaces.  Make sure you let it set up before wiping it off.
